Subway Series Game 1 Had Unexpected Heroes
I was hoping for a good game last night, and I got one! Good pitching and timely hitting put the Yankees on top. And best of all, the Rays lost, putting my Yankees closer to the top. The Yankees beat the Mets last night 2-1, in a low-scoring, thrilling adventure.
Pitching Analysis: I knew Javier was going to be good last night, I just knew it. I believe in Javy. And after his solid outing in Detroit and his beast relief appearance, Javy had the confidence he needed to succeed. He pitched 6 brilliant innings of 1-hit, shutout ball. It was a shame his outing had to end so soon. He is such a team player…his bunt hurt his finger, but he went right back and bunted again before realizing how much pain he was in. Hopefully, Javier will be able to make his next start.
That’s my Javy!!! Oh, I knew you could do it, baby ♥
The Yankee bullpen was iffy last night. Joba Chamberlain was amazing, but it was the Great Mariano who struggled. In the 9th, Mariano surrendered a run via a 2-out double to Bay and an RBI double by Davis. That made the game even tighter. But he then got David Wright to ground out on the first pitch. So whatever. Mo is allowed to be human every once in awhile. And better now than in October.
Offensive Analysis: The Yankee offense struggled last night. They had plenty of chances to break the game open, and failed many times. But there was a little somebody who came through.
I thought Kevin Russo was a cutie in Spring Training, but then forgot about him. My Grandma reminded me of him. She said they should bring him up, but I think she only said that because she thought he was cute. I mean, of all the people for her to remember, she remembered Kevin Russo? It’s probably because he is Italian – my family is Italian, and my Grandma prefers Italian boys. I don’t know….
Anyway, Kevin WAS the Yankee offense last night. He recorded his first-of-many hits in the 3rd inning – a clean single to left-center. Then in the 7th, he came through. His hard-hit double brought home Swish and Cervelli, and gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead. After the game, he was interviewed by Kim Jones (hopefully me in the future) and he was adorable. He looked nervous, but happy at the same time. What a cutie…
It was a fun game last night. I like seeing guys step up. The heroes for the victory are Javier Vazquez, Joba Chamberlain, and Kevin Russo because they all stepped up in this game that the Yankees really needed to win.
Speaking of Kevin Russo, that kid really REALLY REALLY looks like somebody…
Haha….I love this team ♥
