New Spring Styles
With the clocks now sprung forward, the calendar officially saying spring, and the snow gone, baseball really is right around the corner. The dawning of a new season is very close.
Spring brings so many good things aside from baseball. I always look forward to the new spring styles in fashion. I’ve noticed several Yankees sporting some new styles this spring. Some I like, and some….ermm…not so much.
– The New Slender Sabathia
Well, more slender than before. Coming off knee surgery, CC decided it would be beneficial to drop a few pounds before the season. He accomplished his goal and lost around 30 pounds. I think Sabathia looks fabulous.
And not only does he look good – CC might even pitch better now that he won’t have that extra stress on his knees.
I like this new CC, but I sort of miss the old one…I mean can I still call him nicknames? Like my Hefty-Lefty, or CC my Chocolate Chunk? His belly was cute, especially since he pitched so well with it.
Look at him…trying to find his old belly and failing. But I guess I shouldn’t be too down. He’s smiling here – he has embraced his new slender(er) self. I can still call him cute names if I want.
Oh, and that picture just reminded me of a new style that I DISLIKE:
– Sergio Mitre’s New Uni
Mitre was having himself a pretty solid spring, but the Yankees traded him anyways, explaining that they felt they had a “surplus” of pitching (which I think you can never have). I loved Sergio Mitre and I feel bad for him. But what’s done is done.
In the trade, the Yanks got Chris Dickerson, an outfielder. In his Yankees debut in the game today, he went 3-3. I wish him luck.
And of course, Dickerson will look better in a Yankee uniform.
– Joba Chamberlain’s New Hairstyle
Brian Cashman didn’t want to discuss Joba’s weight GAIN, so I’ll refrain from that. I will just note that I think his body looks good…he doesn’t look fatter, but rather he appears stronger. So that’s nice.
But the hair…it sticks out of his cap. It’s long, curly, it’s…it’s almost resembles the Phil Hughes hair of a few years ago!
Okay…I’m not too fond of this messy look, but it worked for Hughes. If it works for Joba, I might learn to really like this look.
–Mariano Rivera’s High Socks
Yes, yes, YESSSS!!!! This is my FAVORITE new style of the spring, and I hope he continues to wear it into the season. God, he looks awesome. I wonder why he didn’t try this earlier. High socks make every player look better. It made A-Rod look better.
Speaking of A-Rod, I don’t know what’s up with him…
– A-Rod’s Stuffed Face
It’s a little unflattering to say the least.
Every time he’s at-bat, Alex stuffs handfuls of sunflower seeds into his mouth, and stores them in his cheek, chewing and spitting every few seconds. It looks ridiculous. I don’t know how he can possibly play like that without choking himself.
Who am I kidding, right? Pshh…”how can he play like that…” A-Rod is having an AMAZING spring! He’s hit like 6 home runs, and the one I saw today went about 440 feet to dead centerfield. He’s a beast!
Alex, if you wanna stuff your face, that’s fine. Just keep hitting!
Overall, I think my Yankees look very very good…aesthetically, of course. But baseball-wise as well. I think it’s going to be a fun season. I can’t wait for it to begin!

Taming the Tigers
Yanks Take 3 of 4!
The Yankees haven’t won a series since they took 3 of 4 from the Indians at Cleveland on July 26th, 28th, and 29th. That’s a long time. So this series win is especially tasty, because the Yanks haven’t had that taste of victory in awhile. In the last 2 games, the offense exploded. Nice. And yesterday, the Yankees received a short but sweet performance from their starter. It was the perfect recipe for success. The Yanks won the finale by the score of 11-5.
Pitching Analysis: I missed seeing start of the game because I was coming home after a college tour, but I caught it on the radio. I was hoping for big things from Phil Hughes. After I heard that Miguel Cabrera homered AGAIN to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, I wasn’t so sure. And the Yankee offense couldn’t do anything off Porcello (early, that is), so I thought they reverted back to their old ways of dying early on.
But then, Phil Hughes found it. And I began to think “Alright. After all, Hughes is pretty good. He’s fine now. And I didn’t ever see Miggy’s home run. It could’ve been like the other night when he hit one off Joba: it could have been a good pitch and a homer that barely scraped the fence.”

Okay, not really, I saw it now, and it was no cheapie. Nothing hit into the Yankee bullpen is a cheapie. But who cares about that homer?
Phil Hughes settled down mighty fine after that first inning. He made that face, the mean one, so I knew he was feeling good out there. After 6 innings of 2-run ball, Hughes’s afternoon was over, but that’s not because of ineffectiveness. Hughes pitched very well yesterday.
Sergio Mitre, on the other hand, did not pitch well. At all. Sorry cutie, but you didn’t. He came in in the 7th, and the team needed him to finish the game. The Yanks had a nice cozy lead, and the bullpen needed a breather. It was up to Mitre to finish it. But after throwing 30 pitches in his 1st inning, I wasn’t so sure. He did come out there for the 8th, and the 9th. It wasn’t pretty, but he closed out the game – allowing 3 runs in 3 innings.
Defensive Analysis: Mark Teixiera deserves another Gold Glove this year – no doubt. He’s a beast, and there is nothing he can’t catch. I think this explains it all:
Sliding into foul territory, bobble, falling, bobble, catch. Talk about perseverance.
Offensive Analysis: I didn’t know when/if the Yankees were going to start scoring. They perked up in the 4th, tying the game courtesy of RBI singles by Swisher and Granderson. 2-2.
The 6th inning is where all the fun really began. 9 runs in 1 inning, sealing the deal for the victory. Cano’s RBI double drove home Tex, giving the Yankees their first lead of the day, 3-2. But they didn’t stop there:
-Swisher walked, and Posada got an RBI single. 4-2
-Granderson walked to load the bases with none out. Austin Kearns got a 2-run double. 6-2
-Gardner walked, and Granderson scored on a pass ball. 7-2
-Gardner stole 2nd, and Jeter drove in 2 runs with a triple. 9-2
-Cano hit a 2-run homer. 11-2

I kind of felt a little sorry for the Tigers. Everything just fell apart.
WHO AM I KIDDING??? I hate the Tigers. How could I forget…that ugly Jeremy Bonderman hit my sweet Brett Gardner on purpose the other day…right in his cute little shin. The Tigers deserved to lose like that.
So finally, the Yankees win a series. The heroes for the finale victory are Phil Hughes, for his impressive performance, and the whole Yankee lineup, for their impressive performance as well.
The Somebody Needs a Hug recipient for the finale is Sergio Mitre. Sergio, thank you for biting the bullet and finishing the game. It was hot, you were stinky, but you toughed it out and did your job. Thank you 🙂
The Yankees are back in first place! This time, they better stay there.

Quite Unorthodox
Yanks Win Series Finale in Epic Adventure
Last night’s Yankee game was far from the norm. And if I may be permitted a cliche, you never know what you are going to see on the baseball diamond. A lot happened on the diamond last night that utterly confused me. But it was okay, because the Yankees won 11-4 and won the series.
Pitching Analysis: I was a little ticked off at Girardi for losing faith in Sergio Mitre so quickly – I mean it was 1 bad start. But whatever, I have a heart. That’s why he’s the manager and I’m not (that was harsh, Joe. I apologize). So Dustin Moseley got the start last night, and I have to say: he really impressed me.
I wasn’t too sure at first, though. Moseley got into a quick bases-loaded jam in the 1st inning. I was beginning to think “Would Mitre be any worse?” But unlike Mitre, (I’m sorry baby! I must be honest…), Moseley didn’t unravel. He battled back, and escaped the inning having allowed just 1 run on a sac fly by Austin Kearns. He threw 30 pitches to do so, but he did it.

After that, Moseley was amazing. He really was. That was the only run he allowed in his 6 innings of work. Despite throwing 30 pitches in the 1st inning, Moseley got his pitch count under control. He threw 83 pitches, and 55 were for strikes. With every inning that passed, I was beginning to fall more and more for Moseley. He looked really….really good….kinda like Mitre….if you know what I mean….

I never thought it would happen this quickly, but I think it did. I mean, I never thought I would like the guy replacing Mitre, who I LOVE. But now…well….OKAY I’LL ADMIT IT!

So the bullpen was one thing that remained normal this game: David Robertson was good, and Chan Ho Park was suckish. Very. And he knew it.
Ooh…he doesn’t look to good…now I can’t help but think about that diarrhea thing….

Defensive Analysis: The defense was good up until the 9th inning. I guess Girardi was so sure that the Yankees were going to win. Otherwise, he would have never put Marcus Thames at 3rd base. MARCUS THAMES HAS NEVER PLAYED THIRD BASE! It’s no wonder he airmailed that throw to 1st into the SEATS. He was throwing like an outfielder. It was the weirdest thing, because he made a great play to get to that ball. But his throw was an epic fail. That 9th inning got a little too interesting. The Indians scored three runs, and I was waiting for Girardi to get Mariano warming.
Offensive Analysis: Once again, the Yankee offense exploded. But it took a long time for the explosion to actually occur. A-Rod had a sac fly in the 3rd to tie the score at 1. And in the 6th, the Yankees finally took the lead on an RBI single by Jeter. But after that, the floodgates opened.
In the 7th:
-Cano hit a solo homer, giving the Yanks a 3-1 lead
-Swish and Gardner walked
-Cervelli got an RBI single, making it 4-1
-Colin Curtis was hit in the butt (poor cutie) to load the bases
Aw.
-Jeter walked with the bases loaded, making it 5-1
-Granderson got a 2-run single, now 7-1
-Alex Rodriguez got a 2-run single. 9-1 Yankees!
The offense had a mini explosion in the 8th when it tacked on 2 more runs. RBI singles by Ramiro Pena and Juan Miranda gave the Yanks an 11-1 lead.
But perhaps the best offensive highlight, was the no offense at all. In the 9th inning, the Indians did what the Yankees did back on April 13th last year: they used a position player to pitch! What! But the best part was that the Yankees didn’t have a 1-2-3 inning since the first. And wouldn’t you know? Little Andy Marte pitched a 1-2-3 inning. AND HE STRUCKOUT NICK SWISHER!

I bet Nick Swisher is the only position player to ever have gotten a strikeout as a pitcher, and to have struck out against a position player. I think letting Marte pitch was a good decision by Manny Acta. It was a miserable game for his team, so why not boost their spirits with some humor? The Indians really got a kick out of it. And so did the Yankees! I bet Nick Swisher did.
So the Yankees won the series finale for the 11th time in a row. The heroes for this not-so-regular win are the entire Yankee lineup for their contributions. And for the first time ever, a hero will be from the other team: Andy Marte. It was amazing what he did out there.
Oh, and how could I forget the other hero: Dustin Moseley, my newest love ♥

A Fun Night to be a Yankee Fan
Offense Explodes in Stress-Free Yankees Win
After a stressful 3-2 win in game 1 and a miserable 4-1 loss in game 2, I was ready for an easy game 3 against the Indians. My wish was granted, as the Yankees beat the Indians 8-0 last night in a relatively stress-free ballgame.
Pitching Analysis: A.J. Burnett was sharp once again last night. He made it look as easy as pie, minus the pie. He’s saving that for the home games. He was so good, that I can’t remember when he got into any jams. Did he? Nothing major. A.J. went 6.1 innings and didn’t allow a run. He struckout 7, and lowered his ERA to a respectable 4.52. He looked cranky and mean, but the good kind of cranky and mean. Not the “I’m so mad that I suck so I’m going to punch a door and injure my hand” kind of mean. He had more of the “Here comes the pitch, here it is, hit it!” type of mean last night, which means that he was feeling good. And it showed on the mound last night as he earned himself his 9th win of the year.
That face means A.J. is on top of his game.
Even the bullpen did well last night. This game had very little stress involved. And even though the Yankees had a huge lead, I couldn’t help but to be nervous when Joba Chamberlain came in to finish the 7th. But he actually did alright despite his balk. And Sergio Mitre, who will not be starting tonight, closed out the last 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 walk, and striking out 3 along the way.
Defensive Analysis: Solid defense and a few great plays was the defensive recipe for success last night. On MLB Network’s “Quick Pitch,” they even showed some of the Yankee great plays from last night. Why am I mentioning this? Because it seems like that channel avoids the Yankees. On the Premier Plays segment, they featured 2 Yankees plays in a row. One was by A.J. Burnett, and the other was a beautiful sliding catch by Nick Swisher.
Is there anything this guy can’t do?
Offensive Analysis: 8 runs, 13 hits, no home runs by Alex, but whatever. He wasn’t too thrilled that he didn’t get the big fly. In fact, he was quite disgusted.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!! A-Rod’s cranky face is hilarious!
But A-Rod did enough last night to keep fans loving him. He went 2-5 with an RBI. In the 6th, he sent me into uncontrollable laughter. He led off the inning with a double, and on the slide into 2nd, there was a little malfunction on the diamond:

There was so much offense last night and so many Yankees contributed.
-Swish had an RBI single.
-Tex had a 2-run single and a double.
-A-Rod had that funny double and an RBI single.
-Cano had a double and a home run.
-Posada had a single.
-Granderson had a single and an RBI triple.
-Gardner had an RBI single and an RBI double.
-Cervelli had a single. The moment in this game that was the most stressful was when Cervelli was hit by a pitch in the elbow. Oh, how he screamed. Oh how I screamed! Poor Cervelli…he doesn’t wear an elbow guard, so that must have hurt his sweet little elbow so much. He actually screamed before it hit him. Actually, I think it hurt me more than it hurt him. He was his smiley old self again right away 🙂

The only one who wasn’t invited to the hit party last night was the Captain. Poor Derek….Jeet was 0-5 last night and I’m sure he wasn’t too happy about that.
Uh-oh…that looks like an A.J. Burnett cranky-face….and NOT the good kind!
Relax, Derek. Don’t do anything silly. No need to be cranky.
Last night and it’s 8-0 Yankee win was a fun night to be a Yankee fan for sure. Dominant pitching, solid defense, explosive offense, and a few laughs – what could be better?
After tonight’s game, the Yankees head to Tampa for a crucial 3-game set with those pesky Rays. I hope those are fun games, too!

Starting the 2nd Half
It’s funny how things change so fast in baseball. One minute, the Yankees had the best starting rotation in the Majors. Then all of a sudden, there are issues. Issues that may loom very large. The team managed to win the series against the pesky Rays. But they have dropped the first one to the Angels. They are 2-2 so far in the second half.
I don’t want to talk about Game 2 against the Rays. A.J. was cranky and cost the game. He had to smash his hand? Really? It’s no wonder these guys are athletes – they aren’t too bright.
Try using your brain? Please…no more violence to your pitching hand.
The only thing about that game that made me smile was seeing Francisco Cervelli steal a base. It was the first time I ever saw him steal and be SAFE! Oh, Francisco….you never fail to make me happy ♥
Old Timer’s Day was before that dreadful game 2, and that was fun. I got a kick out of seeing their 2 inning game:
– I LOL-ed when I saw David Cone playing third base. Then he threw the ball all weird. Haha, why was he playing third base? He was an amazing pitcher!
-Ron Guidry shading his eyes from the sun when he caught the popup. I don’t know why, but that was just funny.
-Rick Cerone purposely letting the ball hit him so he’d be safe at first base! I can’t say I’ve ever seen that before.
-Al Downing can actually still throw the ball! He’s 69 years old, and he looks like he can still pitch.
-Mickey Rivers. He misplayed about 7 balls in the outfield. But he got the walkoff hit for his team! Seeing him run the bases and kick it into “high gear” was pretty cool. I was waiting for A.J. Burnett to pie him, but he never did….
Speaking of A.J. and pie and his hand, Tim McCarver is a moron, which I’m sure you already know. He was “speculating” how A.J. hurt his hand. He was like:
“Maybe he hurt himself when he pied Swisher on Friday night. Maybe he cut his hand on the pie plate! That must be it!”
WHAT AN IDIOT! The pie isn’t on a plate, it’s not some decadent dessert. It’s whip cream on a towel.
The Yankees won the finale of the Rays series, but it wasn’t a very happy victory. Our most consistent starter, who to many is the MVP of the first half, got hurt and is on the DL. Poor Andy….my dandy Andy. He may be out with his groin issue for 4 or 5 weeks, but he’s hoping to return in 3.

Andy will be replaced by Sergio Mitre, who is on the top of my list of hot Yankees. Of course, Mitre is no Pettitte. No one is a Pettitte. But honestly, I’m worried about Mitre taking over that spot in the rotation. Sergio has been on the DL since mid June with some oblique injury he got during batting practice. He hasn’t pitched in so long. Mitre, being a sinkerball pitcher, is more successful when he is a little fatigued because then his pitches sink more. I’m worried that he is too well rested and may be a little rusty. I hope I’m wrong.

Game 1 against the Angels worried me, too. Phil Hughes was just…awful. Truthfully, Phil hasn’t been his Philthy self in a long time. His record is very misleading, because the Yankees usually score for him (this was not the case in game 1). He got off to a great start, tossing to a 2.00 ERA in April. He was solid in May as well, posting a 3.03 ERA that month. June was rocky as Hughes had a 5.17 ERA. And so far in July, things have only gotten worse. His ERA this month is an ugly 6.00. He has gotten progressively worse as the season went on. How can I not be worried? It’s time for him to step up. The team is depending on him, especially with their starting situation. He can’t keep giving up 6 runs and hoping the offense will pick him up. The offense can’t do that every night.
Where is the Phil Hughes that I know and love? It’s not this guy….
Starting pitching is what won the World Series for the Yankees last year. And starting pitching is the reason why the Yankees have the best record in baseball. I’m not too thrilled about the starting pitching situation we have here.

-A.J., PLEEEASE…don’t hurt your hand again. We need you.
-Andy, recover quickly, but don’t rush back. We need you strong and healthy for the 2nd half.

Yanks Hammer Halladay at Home
I know it’s cliche, but it’s true: you see something new every day. After discovering who was pitching for the Phillies, I never thought the game would have the results it did. Did I ever think the Yankees would beat up on Roy Halladay – the man who was perfect just a short while ago? I love my Yankees and have faith in them, but I never thought they would get to Halladay the way they did. I’m so proud of them. To my surprise, the Yankees won 8-3.
Pitching Analysis: Our ace CC Sabathia knew who his opponent was, and made sure to come out of the gates strong. CC was superb, C “Cy” like, in the first three innings of the game, striking out 6 in that span. In the 4th, he ran into a little trouble, and surrendered 3 runs. But it’s not like he was stinky and unraveled. I have to say, that Phillies rally was very cheap: a single off CC’s hand, a grounder out of CC’s reach, and a hit batsman to load the bases with none out. Then two singles, and an RBI groundout. That’s some pretty intense offense, lol.
Great job, Hefty-Lefty!
CC went 7 innings, allowed just those 3 runs on 5 hits, and struckout 7. The bullpen was solid as well. David Robertson pitched a 1-2-3 inning, as well as Chan Ho-not-outta-the-Park. I was hoping I’d see Mitre in this game, but all of a sudden he’s randomly on the DL. He has an oblique strain. Oblique….mmm.
Offensive Analysis: I never in a million years expected the Yankee offense to explode against Halladay. In the first inning, they went down quickly, and I was like, “Oh jeez…here we go.” But in the 2nd, everything changed.
Nick Swisher started the rally with an innocent 1-out single. Jorge Posada then singled, and I began to think “rally,” although I really didn’t want to. I didn’t want to jinx it. It was Brettiboo Gardner’s turn to bat. Oh my God. I love that man. He hit a ball into the gap in right-center, and it went all the way to the wall! Victorino bobbled it, but even if he didn’t I knew where Gardner’s destination was. Gardner made it to 3rd base, for a 2-RUN TRIPLE!!! That must have killed Halladay. It gave the Yankees an early 2-0 lead.

I thought the 2nd inning was fun, but the 3rd was pretty thrilling in itself. My cutie-Curtis Granderson has quielty been playing very well lately. But last night, he was loud. In the 3rd, Granderson hit a line-drive, 2nd deck solo home run – the 1st homer Halladay allowed to a lefty all year. Congrats Grandy! 3-0 Yankees lead.

Robinson Cano then crushed a ball for a double. NickySwish-Swishalicious came up to the plate next. He is 5th in the voting for AL outfielder for the All-Star Game. I’ve done my duty and voted. Hopefully, other fans will as well. I think Nick earned himself plenty of votes with 1 swing last night. Swish hit a MONSTER 2-RUN HOMER into the RIGHT FIELD BLEACHERS! 5-0 Yankees!

The Yankees added 3 more to cushion the lead. Mark Teixeira hit a solo homer in the 5th – he wrapped it right around the foul pole. My darling Francisco Cervelli broke the game open with a clutch, bases loaded 2-run single in the 7th, making it 8-3. And that’s how it ended.
What a way to start this World Series rematch! Better than the first game of the World Series last year – that’s for sure. The Yankees dominated in this game. The heroes for the victory are CC Sabatha, for getting a win against a team that’s not the Orioles – and a pretty decent team in the Phillies. The other heroes are our stellar outfielders: Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher. All three of you are perfect Yankees. Perfect.

Where Are My Yankees?
Tough Series in Detroit for Yanks
So today in school I was dreading to go to gym as I always do. And as always, gym period came. For the first time since like….well…ever, I had fun in gym. We played baseball! Only with a squishy ball and a wiffle bat. My team was awesome. Our whole lineup, which consisted of Rafael, Megan, Leland, Zach, Stephen, Jackie, and me, exploded with offense. And our pitching was great, thanks to Raf who filled in for the gym teacher. And the defense, especially Megan and Stephen, were on top of their game. We won in blowout fashion, something like 19-3. Our team was consistently good througout.
Why can’t my Yankees do this?
It’s frustrating….This past series in Detriot was utterly dreadful, with exception to game 3 in which Phil Hughes continued to shine and the offense woke up. I’m beginning to worry – have the injuries actually caught up with this club?
The fact is, the Yankee lineup just isn’t as intimidating at all. On Opening Day, the best bunch were sent out there:
- Derek Jeter, SS
- Nick Johnson, DH
- Mark Teixeira, 1B
- Alex Rodriguez, 3B
- Robinson Cano, 2B
- Jorge Posada, C
- Curtis Granderson, CF
- Nick Swisher, RF
- Brett Gardner, LF
Take away Nick Johnson and Curtis Granderson. Then you have Marcus Thames and Randy Winn filling in. But if they play, then there is no one on the bench. Except Ramiro Pena and Cervelli (♥) Not to be mean, but Ramiro really stank the other day. He came up 3, I repeat 3 times with men on base/in scoring position, and made unproductive outs every time. Guys like Greg Golson and Juan Meranda are emerging, but are far from the quality of the Big names.
Wake up, cutie! You used to be so clutch…
Our pitching has been relatively icky lately as well. Javier Vazquez was very solid in his start, going 7 innings for the first time all season. Injuries to pitchers like Pettitte, Park, and Aceves have hurt the pitching staff. Sergio Mitre started for Andy the other day and wasn’t great. Sorry Sergio, you weren’t. David Robertson has been a nightmare out of the ‘pen. CC and A.J. both got knocked around too much in their last starts. It’s scary when the guys you really depend on fail you. A.J. goes tonight….I hope he fixed himself.

I know, I know…the team is just going through a bad stretch. But can they really afford to do this? Now? The Rays haven’t stopped winning. And tonight marks the start of an extremely hard part of the schedule for my Yanks: 3 against the Twins, 2 against the Red Sox (I’m still enraged at Josh Beckett), 2 against the Rays, and then 3 on the road against the Mets. These are games that the Yankees have to win, or else it’s gonna look bad.
But maybe….hmmm….maybe this bad stretch DID come at a good time….Maybe since they did bad the past series, the odds are in their favor to go on a nice long winning streak. And, maybe since Derek Jeter only got 3 hits in like 30 at-bats on this road trip, maybe he’s ready to wake up now. Yeah….and Cano will get hot again, because odds are he won’t be in a cold stretch for too long. And A.J. will beast tonight because, well, he’s a beast. Javy will follow up with another good start. CC will bounce back C “Cy” style. Robertson will find it. Cervelli will keep being sexy. And eventually, my wounded-warriors, Curtis GrandyMan (miss you baby ♥), Nicky-J, DandyAndy, Ace, and Chan Ho will come back.
Things will get better for my Yankees. Just as they did for me. My AP’s are OVER, and I miraculously survived. And I had fun in gym today? When does that happen?
Only 14 real school days left. Whoa. Then it’s practically summer, and in summer I can blog everyday again…. I bet a lot will happen in these 14 days, for me and for the Yankees. I bet we get some of our hurt players back, and the other guys will get hot again. And some guys, like Francisco Cervelli-welli-jelli-belli ♥♥♥ will remain hot all year long.

Bashing the Birds
Yankees Sweep Orioles!
It is yet another series win for the Yankees. This one has been especially entertaining for me, because a certain player who I love so much has seen some extra playing time, and has made the most of it. But I’ll get to that later 🙂 The Yankees won game 1 and game 2 by the same score of 4-1, and won game 3 by the score 7-5 to complete the sweep.
Game 1
Game 1 was a close game from start to finish, but for some reason it never felt that way. Even when the Yankees were behind, it didn’t feel like they were losing. I just knew they were going to come back, and they did. CC Sabathia allowed a solo home run to Matt Wieters in the 2nd, but other that that he was great. By limiting the amount of damage, CC enabled the potent Yankee offense to come back. And they did.

In the 4th, A-Rod led off with a single, and eventually came around to score on a Swisher single to tie the game at 1. Brettiboo Gardner followed with a single. Then Randy Winn came up. My Mom was just saying how the Yankees really needed to bring up another outfielder, because Randy Winn can’t hit. I guess Randy heard this. He connected for a monster 3-run home run, and gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead! How cute! Thanks to Randy’s big fly, the Yankees won the game.

Game 2
This is the game that I liked the best. OMG it was like I died and had gone to Cervelli Heaven…♥♥♥ It was amazing…I was extremely jealous that my teachers all went to see this game. The history teachers all went together. That’s kind of cute. Those three are my favorite teachers at the school. I told them to say hi to Cervelli for me, but I don’t think they did….

The combo of A.J. Burnett and Francisco Cervelli proved to be very dominant once again for the Yankees. A.J. pitched 7 1/3 innings of solid baseball. He only allowed 1 run, but it was unearned. The 3rd inning was just down-right awesome. Burnett got into a jam: With a run already in due to a throwing error, the Orioles looked to add to that with runners on 2nd and 3rd and none out. I was afraid A.J. was going to unravel. But Cervelli calmed him down, and together, those fears were washed away. Burnett struckout Jones for out #1. Then, Nick Markakis struckout for out #2. It was then Matt Wieters’ turn. Guess what happened to him? Wieters struckout for out #3. Inning over. Crisis averted. Cervelli fist-pumped out of excitement, and the momentum was now in the Yankees’ favor.

In the bottom half of the 3rd, Cervelli led off. I guess he was still so pumped up from A.J.’s performance in the top of the inning. He hit a ball in to the outfield, that fell out of reach of the diving Oriole. He saw the ball was heading all the way to the wall. So as he rounded 2nd, he knocked off that silly helmet and hustled all the way to 3rd for a LEADOFF TRIPLE!!! It was the first triple of his career. He was so pumped up, and so was I. He then scored on a Ramiro Pena groundout to tie the game at 1.
In the 4th, Cervelli decided to show off his glove. A foul ball was hit by the Yankee dugout, and Cervelli tracked it down. But the ball was going to land in the dugout. Cervelli made a bold, brave move, and jumped headfirst into the Yankee dugout to catch the ball! He knew his teammates would save him. It was an amazing play, and it sent me into my continuous “Cervelli is cute” cheers that I have become so accustomed to in the last few days. It was funny how all the teammates grabbed hold of Cervelli to prevent him from falling in the dugout. I was a little jealous of them there….I wouldn’t mind touching Cervelli down there by the tush….
In the 5th, Gardner led off with a walk, Cervelli singled, and Ramiro Pena bunted. The throw went crazy, and everyone was safe! A run scored on the play, giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Tex walked, and with the bases loaded Alex Rodriguez had a great at-bat. After fouling off about 100 pitches, 2 of which almost took out Cervelli at 3rd, Alex walked to force in a run. 3-1 Yanks! The 4th and final Yankee run came in the 8th inning on a sac fly by Ramiro Pena. Joba held on to close out his 2nd consecutive game, and the Yankees won it!
Game 3
I didn’t see much of this game because it came on a 1, and I got home at 3:30. But from what I heard it was a great game. the Yankees won it 7-5. Andy Pettitte started and did a pretty nice job, going 5 innings and allowing just 1 run. But he exited the game early, which may be a reason for concern. His elbow is a little stiff, but hopefully everything is okay. I guess it’s good he came out – better safe than sorry. The Yankee bullpen did a lot of work today. Sergio Mitre, Damaso Marte, David Robertson, Boone Logan, and Alfredo Aceves all pitched. Mitre and Robertson allowed a few runs, but whatever. The Yankees had a big lead, I don’t blame the guys for throwing strikes.
I hope your arm feels better, Andy.
On the offensive side, the Yanks scored 7 runs on 10 hits – hits from some guys we wouldn’t expect. Like Nick Johnson! He hit a solo homer in the 1st inning today. Aw. He may finally be getting out of that season-long slump! The only bad thing about this is….I think he’s going to keep that icky perv mustache. Usually, players don’t like to change anything about them when they are doing well. Oh well….as long as he hits, I’ll take it. Nick Swisher also had a HR today; congratulations Swishalicious. You are have had quite the hot series 😉 Cervelli also had another hit today, what a surprise lol. He’s just too good to be true…
Even with the moustache, I still think he’s cute. It must be the pinstripes 😉
This series has been awesome. I’ve been pretty stressed out lately and these guys have really helped me get through it. The heroes for the series sweep are the starting pitchers: CC, A.J., and Andy, for their dominance, Nick Swisher, for beasting throughout the entire homestand, and…..and…..FRANCISCO CERVELLI ♥♥♥ for doing everything and anything the team needed. God bless that adorable man. I want him soooo badly…he is my favorite Yankee, and that really is saying a lot.
I’m glad the Yankees are off tomorrow, only because I will be able to get to bed early. Friday is my AP US history exam, and I am freaking out a bit. But you know what? It’s okay. It really is okay. I already got college credit for this class, so the AP exam is just bonus. And I think I will be alright anyway…I’ve been studying my tail off this past week. Hopefully it pays off 🙂

Rough Day and Yankee Loss 😦
Omg today was stressful. I took my SAT, but that wasn’t the stressful part, believe it or not! I was nervous when I was pacing the halls waiting for the test to start, but other than that I was calm. It was a long, boring exam, but it was easy. After 5 hours of spilling my brain for the test, I was relieved it was over. I arrived home just in time for the start of the game. The game…Oh, what a game! It was not a fun one for me….it was agonizing…pitiful…I just feel awful. My Yankees lost 7-6 in what was a heartbreaking game for me.
Pitching Analysis: I was overjoyed that I got home in time to Javier from the beginning. I was happy, cheerful, and optimistic after my test. I felt I could conquer anything, and hoped Javy had that same bravado (good SAT word right there lolz). Unfortunately, this was not the case. Javier was, well…let me just say it outright – pretending I don’t realize it isn’t going to solve anything: Javier was dreadful once again today. He couldn’t even get an out in the 4th inning. In 3+ innings, Javy surrendered 5 runs, 3 homers, on 7 hits and 4 walks. He just looked miserable out there. He is so stressed out; it pains me to see him that way.
I would hide my face too if I were you, babe….OH! Did I just say that? I’M SO SORRY JAVY!!! But it’s true….you poor pitiful baby….
Ozzie Guillen is a greasy rotten ****. I’m not sure if he did it, but even if he didn’t I still feel that way about him. In the 3rd inning, the umpires confronted Javier and told him he had to change his glove because it is “illegal.” ILLEGAL? Why, then, has he been using it for the last 4 years? I think Ozzie pointed that out to the umps to freak out Javy even more. He had to go down into the clubhouse and get a brand new glove. I mean, how rotten is that? The poor man is so uncomfortable already, and you have to add to that? For no reason? What really annoys me is that JJ Putz had the same glove only the colors were reversed, and no one said a thing. I think Girardi should have done something about it.
I know that’s not why Javy was bad. But still….it’s just wasn’t right. Oh, Javier…you poor poor baby. I’m honestly very upset. I’m not mad at you, I just want you to succeed so much. The only reason I wasn’t hysterically crying over Melky’s departure for too long was because of you. I hate to admit it, but I am losing faith. I wonder now if it was worth it to get rid of Melky….
Joe Girardi got on my nerves today in the 7th. David Robertson has been so stinky lately. Why put him in in a 6-5 tight ballgame? Thanks to that, the Yankees lost. After Robertson screwed up the inning and put 2 guys on base, Girardi called on Marte to get out the lefty Pierzynski. Instead, Marte served up a 2-run double, which gave the ChiSox a 7-6 lead, and took all hope of a Yankee victory away.
Offensive Analysis: The Yankee offense really wasn’t bad today. The lack of pitching led to loss today. I’m not really in the mood to go through the whole thing because they LOST…OH! I get that sick feeling when I think about Swish’s 2-run HR in the 6th…that gave the Yanks a 6-5 lead. I was almost certain they would win it after that…but no….like I don’t have enough stress on me already…they blew it.
I almost died in the 6th. Prior to Swish’s home run, one of my truest loves….he….he….OH! WHY? WHHHYYYYY???? God, why did you do this to Curtis? To CURTIS?!?! He’s just…oh, he’s just too find…too GRAND….witnessing him limp like that felt like having a stake jammed through my heart….Just think: he was just starting to break out of his slump….he was just rounding the bases….and then he started hobbling…pitifully, painfully to 3rd base. It’s his groin. A grade 2 strain to his left groin is going to sideline him to the DL for at least 15 days…can you imagine what this did to me? I wish I had magical healing powers…oh Curtis! How I wish I could just make it better baby…you poor thing….Seriously, no joke, I almost cried when I heard you were going to the hospital for an MRI…I expected something bad….

It has been quite an agonizing day. Not exactly how I hoped to start the new month. Poor Javier….poor Curtis….today was just not the best day for my Yankees. What if Javy continues to struggle? And then they like….-gulp-…get rid of him….that’s going to break my already half-broken heart. And…oh….what if GrandyMan’s groin is more serious than we know? What if he’s away for more than 2 weeks? I’m going to suffer from Granderson withdrawl….This is too agonizing…can it get worse? Will it?
Maybe the stress of junior year is finally catching up to me….maybe I am just overtired… It can’t get worse. I mean it can, but it won’t. It definitely won’t. It will be okay. It has to, because these are the Yankees. They make things interesting, but when it’s all over, it will be okay. It’s a long season…there will be ups and downs. But at the end, I think I know where this team will be.

Yeah. It’s painful right now, but it will be alright. And there WERE some positives today…like Mitre (♥). That guy was dealing today. And Swisher’s Yankee Stadium funk may finally be over. And Tex looked good today. And Jorge is alive!

Yanks Lose, Javy Struggles
Last night’s game didn’t have too many positives. That could’ve been my fault. I wasn’t watching the game like I should’ve been. Instead, I was flipping back and forth from the Yankees to the Celebrity Apprentice. See, the Apprentice is on on Sundays, but I didn’t watch it last time because of Opening Night. So I figured I’d catch the rerun on Friday. But then I realized that Friday was Javier’s debut! How could I miss that? I only gave Javier half my heart last night. And he struggled. My fault, Javybaby. The Yankees lost 9-3 last night, and I am disgusted with myself.
Pitching Analysis: I watched the first three innings of the game without flipping channels, because the Celebrity Apprentice didn’t come on until 8. Javier looked very good…striking out Rays left and right. He didn’t allow a run through the first 3 innings. But after that, well…things fell apart.
Oh, Javier! I’m so upset…I’m sorry you struggled so much…you poor thing, you look flustered.
The 4th inning was gross. When I flipped back, the Rays had died the game at 2. By the end of the inning, it was 5-2 Rays, thanks to a homer by Carlos Pena. I was worried then, because I say how well Price was throwing. It was going to be a long night for the Bombers.
Back to the Apprentice I went.
When I flipped back, I saw Javy had completely lost it. It was 8-2. I didn’t know what had happened at the time, but the Rays were hitting him hard. Aybar hit a 2-run homer as well. Javy looked flustered, tired, and beaten. He was pulled for another sexy pitcher, Sergio Mitre. Sergio was not accustomed to coming in in the middle of an inning, and he surrendered another run. Aah! But other than that, Sergio looked good…very good 😉
Offensive Analysis: There was not much offense last night, but I’m not mad at the Yankees. David Price is to blame. Congrats on your good pitching, David. We’ll getya next time.
The only offense came in the 4th and the 8th. In the 4th, A-Rod hit a 2-run inside the park home run! Okay, okay…it was a triple, RBI that scored Nick Johnson (who finally hit! Now we are just waiting on Tex), and an error which allowed Alex to score…forgive me for embellishing. I switched channels just in time to see it. That gave the Yanks a 2-0 lead, which would soon vanish.
The 3rd run came in the 8th inning, where Jeet doubled, and scored on a Nick Johnson double. I was annoyed that they didn’t score more. There were none out, and a man on second. But they couldn’t scrape across anything else. It was just 9-3…
It wasn’t fun last night…Let me apologize to my boys: Yankees, I am terribly sorry. You know how it is: you get hooked on those shows and look forward to them all week. And I didn’t watch in Sunday to see you guys. Last night’s episode wasn’t even good…it was upseting. Donald Trump fired Rod Blagojevich. I wanted Blago to stay longer because he’s funny. But no. Trump had to ruin everything.

I should have just forgot about the show. I betrayed you guys. I’m so so sorry…especially to you Javier. You were good when I watched you, but lost it when I left. Please don’t hate me.
And Granderson! Oh, I barely saw you last night…I miss you ♥ All I saw was the last pitch of one of your at-bats where you struckout. That left an icky taste in my mouth.
Yankees, I won’t ever make the same mistake. Better luck today, guys.
