Yanks Win Game 2 & Even Series
That’s comforting. Game 1 seems so far away now that we’ve won game 2. Now my boys head to Philly with the series even. But they have the momentum now. My babies won game 2 3-1, and it was a great game.
Pitching Analysis: A.J. Burnett in a big, BIG game? Most Yankee fans were a bit worried about that. Honestly, I was a teeny-weeny-bit nervous about A.J. But after the first pitch, those nerves were gone. I mean it. When I saw him throw his fastball for a strike on the first pitch, I knew I was going to see the good A.J. And boy, was he good! Burnett went 7 innings and allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 9 Phillies. The Phillies looked as lost at the plate against Burnett as the Yanks did against Lee in game 1. A.J. was that good. He deserves a ton of credit. I love how the FOX announcers didn’t give him any. Eff them.

Mariano Rivera was called upon to get the 6 out save, and I don’t blame Girardi for doing that. I don’t trust anyone in the Yankee bullpen right now. Mo did a nice job.
Defensive Analysis: Great defense last night. My favorite play was in the 4th. Jayson Werth led off with a single. I hate Jayson Werth. I think he’s gross. He looks like a goat. No, he looks like that wrestler Edge!
Maybe that’s why I hate him.
Anyway, he was on first. Molina decided to show off. He made a snap throw to Tex, who made the tag on Werth for the out! Haha, Molina caught him sleeping! It was so cool.

Offensive Analysis: That play by Molina may have sparked something in the Yanks. Mark Teixeria led off the inning with a solo homer into the Yankee bullpen. Then in the 6th, Matsui hit a solo homer to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead! Haha, Pedro, who’s your daddy now?

The Yanks added on another in the 7th. Posada knocked in a run with a pinch-hit RBI single. That made it 3-1, and that’s how it ended.
I liked this game better that game 1. Game 1 made me angry….very. Winning is a good thing. The heroes for the victory are A.J. Burnett, for beasting, Mariano Rivera, for preventing the stinky bullpen from pitching, and Mark Teixeira, for his homer and for just being adorable.
And speaking of Tex, he reminds me of someone….
Well, I see it.

An Odd, Exciting, AWESOME WIN!!!
These Yankees Amaze Me
This entire postseason has been so much fun. And last night? Just another crazy “walkoff” win from the Drama Club. I was so tired when it ended. The time on my clock as I climbed into bed was 1:37 am. I was beyond exhausted. I had the PSAT, and then that game. It was insane. The Yankees beat the Angels last night/this morning 4-3.
Pitching Analysis: A.J. Burnett was dominant. His stuff was naaaaaaasty. Molina caught him again, and mixed his pitches very well. Once again, the usually-explosive Angel lineup could barely amount to anything. They scored 2 runs off A.J. Acutally, if you think about it, A.J. beat himself last night. He’s just too good! In the 5th, things got a little messy. A.J. just could not control that curveball. There were hit batsmen and wild pitches. The Angels only got 2 hits that inning, but those hits plus A.J.’s wildness added up to 2 runs, and a 2-2 game.
The bullpen did a magnificant job last night. They went over 6 innings, and allowed just 1 run. Coke, Joba, Hughes, Mo, Ace, Marte, and Robertson all pitched last night. Only Aceves gave up a run; an RBI single by Figgins in the 11th inning. The bullpen guys were the heroes last night. and A.J., too. He really pitched a great ballgame. He received a lovely ovation when he was taken out. He deserved it.

Defensive Analysis: The defense was uncharacteristically sloppy last night. Jeet made an error and Cano made 2. But unlike the Angels the night before, the Yankees were able to win despite the bad “d.” Oh, and Johnny Damon made another fine play last night in the 9th.

Offensive Anlaysis: The Yankees had a little trouble with runners in scoring postition last night; in fact they were 0-8 in those situations. But they managed to get the BIG hits when they really needed them. In the 2nd, Swish drew a 2-out walk, and Cano tripled him in, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd, Jeter hit an opposite field solo homer to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead.
In the 11th, the Yankees were trailing 3-2 , and the Angels sent out Fuentes to pitch. Arod was to lead off the inning, but there was no way I was going to expect him to be clutch again. How ignorant of me. With an 0-2 count, Alex got a high fastball, and he smashed it into the right field seats for a GAME TIEING HOME RUN!!!!! GOD do I love that man?!!!!!!

It seemed like the game would never end. The Yankees kept getting runners on, and they kept stranding them. So in the 13th when Jerry Hairston led off with a pinch-hit single, I didn’t think much of it. Gardner then bunted him over, and Cano was intentionally walked to get to my man Melky, the Yankee who has received 3 pies this year. “Stupid move,” I thought. But Melky hit a sharp grounder to second baseman Izturis’s left, and I was like, ‘Oh, no! Melky, no!” But Izturis, the same guy the stupid FOX annoncers were praising the whole game, threw to Aybar at second, and threw it wild! The ball was heading into foul territory. Jerry hustled around third, headed for home, and SAFE! JERRY SCORES! THE ANGELS DEFENSE SCREWED UP! AND THE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!!!

It was cute seeing Jerry get pied. Even though Melky hit the ball, Jerry deserved it. It was great. Burnett used the direct approach this time. Usually, he sneaks around behind the player as they are getting interviewed. But this time, he approached Jerry head-on. He paused and showed Jerry the pie, and then smushed it in his face. Taste good, huh Jerry?
I loved this game! The heroes are Arod, for keeping the Yankees alive, the Yankee pitchers, for also keeping the Yankees alive, and Jerry Hairston, for running hard and winning it for us. The Yankees head to California up 2 games to none, and they have to be feeling pretty good about things. I know I do. These Yankees never give up. They have that mentality. And they have that Yankee Stadium Magic, and the best fans. They are lucky to have all that. And I’m so lucky to have them. GO YANKEES! I LOVE YOU!
The Greatest Game I Have Ever Seen

Game 2 of the 2009 ALDS between the Yankees and the Twins was the best game I have ever seen in my young life. It is an instant Yankees Classic. This game was an emotional roller coaster. There were times when I hid my eyes behind my hands, times when I fist-pumped, a time when I cried (literally) and a time where I jumped for joy, and almost cried again. There was the time where I was laying in bed exhausted, but unable to sleep because I was too excited. There was Yankee Stadium Magic, clutch pitching and offense, and that Drama Club mentality to never give up. This game summed up my Yankees. My Yankees won this game 4-3 in 11 innings.
Pitching Analysis: A.J. Burnett made his first career postseason start last night, and was caught by Jose Molina. That was a smart, SMART decision. A.J. went 6 innings of 1 run ball. He allowed just 3 hits, walked 5 and hit 2, and struckout 6 along the way. This was the A.J. I love. His stuff was electric, and his wildness proved to be affective. He really pitched a great ballgame, and the thoughts of whether A.J. would succeed in the postseason are gone.
The bullpen guys were the quiet heroes of the game last night. Joba, Coke, Hughes, Mo, Ace, Marte, and Robertson pitched last night. Hughes had a little trouble. In the 8th, a 2 out walk to Gomez started a rally for the Twins. Hughes allowed a run to give the Twins a 2-1 lead. He was pulled for Mo, who served up an RBI single to Span, giving the Twins a 3-1 lead. That run was charged to Hughes. It didn’t look too good for my Yankees right about now. I was beginning to worry. How silly of me.
Marte started off the 11th. Mauer hit a ball down the left field line that fell just out of the reach of Melky, and bounced into the seats. It looked like a double. But umpire Phil Cuzzi sayed it was foul. Fine with me! But the replay showed that it was clearly a fair ball. He really screwed up that call. Why? I think it was the ghosts. I think Babe Ruth blew at the umpire, forcing his arms to point foul instead of fair. Whatever the reason, the Yankees had gotten a break. They had a bunch of bad calls before, so I guess it evened out. Mauer reached with a single anyway. Then Kubel singled. Girardi called upon rookie David Robertson to get out of the jam.

Robertson gave up a hit to make it bases loaded with none out. I was freaking out. I was hiding behind my hands here. I was thinking, “How can they get out of this?” With Cervelli catching and Robertson pitching, I was thinking these guys were too young to get out of it. Well, on 2 pitches, Robertson got 2 outs, and was 1 away from getting out of this big-time jam unscathed. Cervelli punched his glove, obviously sensing how close they were. Brendan Harris, who earlier tripled in a run, came up. I was shaking, sweating, and close to dying. I heard the crack of the bat and was brave enough to look. I saw Garder under the ball, and he caught it! They did it! They got out of a bases loaded, 0 out jam and kept the game tied! I was in awe. It was the best relief performance I have ever seen. I was so psyched.
Defensive Analysis: The Yankee defense was great last night. They made all the plays. In the 4th, Nick Swisher made a great play. He threw behind Gomez at 2nd, and Jeet tagged him out before Delmon Young scored! The inning was over, and the score remained knotted at 0. Nick Swisher also made a sparkling play in the 9th. I was upset in the 9th because we were losing, but I still marveled over the catch.

Offensive Analysis: In the 6th, trailing 1-0, Jeter looked to start a rally. He doubled with 1 out. Johnny walked, and Tex popped out, making it 2 outs for Arod. Arod stayed calm, and got a pitch to hit, which he did. Arod’s RBI single tied the game at 1. His clutch-ness continues!
In the 9th, the Yankees were trailing 3-1 and had to face Joe Nathan. Tex led off with a single. I was excited, but I didn’t want to show it. I didn’t even want to move because I was afraid to jinx them. Arod came up. I was thinking, “Him again? How many times can he come through?” My Dad was sitting on the chair next to me. He doesn’t like Arod too much. He said he wouldn’t like him until he did something dramatic in the postseason to help the Yankees. My Dad never gives Arod credit for anything. So I was even more nervous last night in the 9th for Alex, because I knew that if he failed, my Dad would go on another tirade about how Alex is worthless. His other RBI wouldn’t matter if he didn’t come through again.
My living room was quite. I could sense my Dad there, watching Arod’s every move. I was jamming my pen into my knee as I sat there. It hurt, but there was no way I was going to stop doing it. The Yankees looked to be rallying. It would have been selfish of me to put the pen down and stop the pain. Then the Yankee rally would have ended, and it would have been all my fault. Well, I wound up flinging the pen across the room. Arod got a pitch, and he hit it…….and……and…….Gomez was looking up…..the ball….it kept going….Gomez climbed the wall……but the ball….it was….GONE!!!!!!! IT WAS A MONSTER SHOT! A 2-RUN, GAME-TYING HOMER OF JOE NATHAN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH BY ALEX RODRIGUEZ! My Dad jumped up, and said, “That was it! That was his Yankee moment!” I can’t describe what I was feeling there. I hugged my Dad, I saw my Mom coming out into the living room cheering, and I went over and hugged her. We were all screaming. I was so happy, it was really confusing. I just started crying hysterically. As I hugged my Mom, the tears just kept coming. It was uncontrollable. I was crying after Alex hit that home run. It was all just too emotional. Arod did it, he came through, and my Dad admitted it. The Yankees were back in the game, and it was amazing. I couldn’t stop crying. After the screams died down, the sounds of my crying finally became noticed. My brothers were making fun of me for crying. Well, sorry! It’s not my fault! How could I control my emotions? I eventually stopped. It was the most confusing thing ever. But I loved it. The Yankees were alive, and the game was tied 3-3.

After Robertson’s fabulous performance in the 11th, the momentum was back on the Yankees’ side. Texy-wexy led off the inning. And it couldn’t have been led off in a better way. Tex hit a line-drive to left, and it got out in a hurry. WALKOFF HOME RUN!!!!!! MARK TEIXEIRA!!!! MVP!!!! It was his first walkoff as a Yankee,…..
….and got his first taste of victory pie.
I cheered loud after that homer. I almost cried again, but I managed to control it. I can honestly say that this was the greatest game I have ever EVER seen. Just, wow. The heroes for this great victory, well, there are quite a few. A.J., for his great start, Swisher, for his defensive success, Robertson, for the gutsiest pitching performance I have ever seen, Arod, for making me cry, and Mark Teixeira, for making this game one to remember because it was a win. Once again, I have to say it: I love this team. They complete my life. And when they are this good, this dominant, this special, I can’t help but to love them more. Just 1 more win in the next 3 games, and we move on to the ALCS. And I believe that if we get past the ALDS, we are going all the way. The Yankees are ready for these final steps in the journey to #27, and I’m ready, too.

I really never thought it would be over. There is always another game, right? No? The season ends? Oh….Well, at least we are in the postseason. The last game of the regular season was amazing, definitely fitting for the Drama club. The Yankees won 10-2.
Pitching Analysis: A.J. Burnett was a beast, probably because Molina was catching. That’s fine with me! As long as we succeed, I don’t care who is behind the plate, although I would have liked to see my Cervelli a little more. Anyway, A.J. pitched a nice ballgame. He went 5 innings and allowed just 2 runs. Then the bullpen guys pitched, to get in their final work before the postseason! Aahh! Postseason!
He’s a BEAST!!!!!!!
Robertson, Chamberlain, Coke, Hughes, and Mo all pitched yesterday. Yes, Joba did relieve. And he did an exemplary job. His 1-2-3, 7 pitch 7th gave me some confidence in him. Way to go, Joba! And yes, even though we had a 10-2 lead in the 9th, Mariano pitched. So it wasn’t a save situation, big deal. He needed some work, and we all know that Mo is more than happy to take the ball.
See? He is happy. Mo loves his job.
Offensive Analysis: The Yankee bats were quiet through the first 5 innings, but they were ear-splittingly loud in the 6th. They put up a 10 spot! Arod provided some drama. He was 2 homers away from 30 and 7 RBI away from 100. It didn’t look like he would get there. BUT….these 2009 Yankees have a way of surprising us! Arod hit a 3-run homer to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead!
It was funny. I said that if the Yankees didn’t score after the 5th, then I would have to go write my essay for history. They didn’t score, so I grudgingly kept to my word and made my way into the computer room to write a history DBQ essay. It was hard for me to break away from the Yankees to do the essay, but somehow I did. Right when I was getting started, Arod hit that homer in the 6th. “Are you kidding?” I thought. “They do good when I go away? Fine, then. I had the other TV on behind me now. I had to have it on in the background. It was the last game, and I needed them. Moral support for the essay! That was my excuse 🙂
So the Yankees batted around, and Texy-wexy was intentionally walked to load the bases for Arod. They only did that because they didn’t want Tex to break Pena’s league-leading home run total. So they decided to pitch to Arod with the bases loaded. (Chuckle) Smart move, Rays. Arod was now 1 homer away from 30 and 4 RBI away from 100. I was thinking grand slam. AND HE DID IT! Alex Rodriguez hit a no-doubter for a grand slam, and a 10-2 Yankee lead! And he got his season totals where they are supposed to be! I would say it was Yankee Stadium Magic, but the game was in Tampa! It was just the Drama Club.

The Yankees went on to win it 10-2, ending the regular season. I almost cried during that video they showed after the game. All those Yankee players, the moments, the walkoffs, the pies, it was so touching. I cried a bit afterword, my vision becoming blurry as I was attempting to explain that “JOIN or DIE” image from the American Revolution for my essay. I just did not want this season to end, for so many reasons:
1) It has been a thrill ride. I have enjoyed this season so much, and I really feel like the team is pary of my family. I just love them so much and don’t want it to end. 2) Will I ever see Mitre again? God, I don’t want to even think about that. You all know how I feel about that man; you can imagine what I’d do if they got rid of him. 3) Melky’s contract is up, and I want to know that I will see him next year. 4) What about Cervelli? What’s going to happen to that kid? Will I see him again? 5) All that remains is the postseason. If we don’t win, it’s over.
Aahh, who am I kidding, we will win.
The heroes for the victory are Alex Rodriguez, A.J. Burnett, and everyone else. I love them all so much right now, how can I exclude anyone?
I’d just like to take a minute to thank my Yankees: Yankees, thank you. I have had more fun watching you guys this season than I have ever had before. I have truly become addicted to you, but that’s okay. I wouldn’t want it any other way. During the nights you were not playing, I felt lost, lonely, confused. What was I going to do with myself? Actually go out and hang with friends like normal high-school girls do? That pales next to watching you. I need you guys. I don’t just watch the games, I live them with you. I hang on every pitch, I laugh, I scream, I cry, I throw an occasional shoe, (hahaha, none of that recently, you guys have been playing awesome!) I act as if the world will end if you lose. And when you win, I feel that I am on top of the world. I want you to win the World Series because I think it is time, but the main reason is because I want to see you for as long as possible. I want you to go all the way, so the offseason is shorter, and so my countdown to February when pitchers and catchers report is not as long. Yankees, I just want you to know that I love you, I LOVE you, and I love you ♥ I love you more than anyone else. I think it is safe to say that is a fact 🙂

One Step Closer!
Yanks Beat Sox, Magic Number Down To 3!
From the beginning I had a feeling the Yankees were going to win last night. It was kind of a “Drama Club” win; any win versus the Red Sox is dramatic. It was a good game. Joba was solid, and the offense exploded. The Yankees beat the Smelly Sox 9-5.
Pitching Analysis: Joba Chamberlain really stepped up last night. He pitched a nice ballgame. Joba was perfect through 3 & 2/3 innings. In total, he went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5 along the way. It was a quality start for Joba. I think he was very sharp yesterday. He listened to Jane’s advice and didn’t walk around the mound for five hours. He threw the ball, got the ball, and was ready to throw again. He looked mean, intimidating, and dominant as he stared in at the Red Sox hitters. It was a Joba well done!

Aceves, Albaladejo, Marte, Hughes, and Coke finished out the game. Albaladejo gave up 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning, but the rest of the ‘pen was great.
Defensive Analysis: The defense was soild as usual last night. Johnny Damon made an error, but whatever. I love Johnny. He should definitely come back next year. Nick Swisher made a Nick Swisher-ish play in right field. In the 2nd inning, Swish made a funky sliding catch on an Ortiz liner. I couldn’t really tell if the slide was necessary, but you know Nick Swisher. He loves to show off. Oh, NickySwish…It was a nice play, and it led Joba to a 1-2-3, 10 pitch 2nd inning.
Offensive Analysis: The offense exploded last night. The Yanks scored 9 runs on 14 hits. I love it when they hit well. But what I really enjoyed seeing last night was the running game. The Yankees stole a season-high 7 bases last night. That is my favorite aspect of the game. Stealing bases creates potential run-scoring situations, and it forces the opposing team to make the plays. It is the most exciting part of the game, in my opinion. I wish the Yanks would do it more often. It was fun to watch. Watching the Red Sox captain Jason Varitek fail and fail again and again at throwing out runners, I love it!
In the 3rd, something awful happened. My man Melky hit a line drive right off of Jon Lester’s knee. Lester went down, and did not get up. Melky reached with an RBI infield single, but everyone’s concern was on Lester. I really felt bad. Now I despise the Red Sox, but I didn’t get any thrill in seeing Lester in pain like that. He’s just a kid, and he has battled through a lot to get where he is today. I hope he is okay and not in too much pain.
Poor Lester…I hope he is okay…why couldn’t it have hit Pukilis? Everyone hates him.
Alex Rodriguez had a huge night at the plate. He was 3-3 with 4 RBI’s, including a monster 2-run homer into the second deck in left. Nice to see him contributing so much. He has been very clutch this year. I hope he does something extremely clutch in the postseason, so all the fans will forever love him.

It was a nice win for the Yanks last night. The magic number is now 3. We are 1 step closer, boys! The heroes for the victory are Alex Rodriguez, for his offensive explosion, and Joba Chamberlain, for proving he CAN pitch well. The Yankees now have a 6.5 game lead over the Smelly Sox who cheat at Fenway. I can’t wait for the postseason! I’m thinkin’ my Yanks have a pretty fair shot at #27 this year. I pray that I am right. ♥ Cervelli Tastes Victory ♥ And I Love Him ♥
My Cervelli Came Through; I Love Him All Over Again
I was going to go to bed. But then I decided I would watch the rest of the game. Jeez, I am glad I did. The Yankees were indeed the Drama Club last night. And my baby was right in the middle of it. What a great moment. The Yankees won in walkoff fashion 5-4.
Pitching Analysis: Chad Gaudin started in place of Andy Pettitte last night, and he actually was pretty good. He went 5 & 2/3 innings of 3-run ball. For an emergency start by Chad Gaudin, I would say that is pretty good. Overall, Chad has performed well in pinstripes. The Yankees have won every start he pitched. Although he is not the hottest-looking guy like Mitre, I still love him. I can’t help it. Nice job, Chad! He needs an endearing nickname…Chaddy-waddy! Hmm…I guess that works for now.
Marte, Bruney, Coke, Hughes, and Mo finished out the game. Bruney was not too good. He failed to get an out and he allowed a run. Mo got the win. The pitchers did a nice job last night.
Defensive Analysis: The defense was pretty solid last night. Jeter made an error, but whatever. I still think he should win the Gold Glove, along with the rest of the Yankee infield. All of them are fabulous. Arod made a nice play in the 1st. Aaron Hill hit a sharp liner to Alex’s right, and he leaned over, fell a bit, and caught the ball. The “Hot Corner.” I think Arod does a nice job over there.
Offensive Analysis: The Yankees jumped out to an early lead in the 1st. Jeet led off with a walk, and Texy-wexy’s RBI double brought Jeter around to score. Matsui then knocked in Tex for a RBI of his own. 2-0 Yankees. The Yankee bats were silent for a long time. In the 8th, Matsui provided a spark. He hit a 2-run homer to tie the game at 4! Yankee Stadium magic!!! The Yankees were alive. 4-4.

The 9th is my favorite part. I am so glad I watched!!! Brett Gardner led off with a single and stole second. Jeter moved him over to third with a ground out. And then….then my baby came up….Francisco Cervelli…I was so excited that he rejoined the team as a September callup…but he never played…he never even started a game…but last night he got a chance… With a 1-2 count, I was beginning to doubt Cervelli’s chances. I really wanted him to be the hero. So Cervy delivered.

Francisco ripped a single into right field, which brought home Gardner, and brought out the Yankee dugout. And it brought out my screams of joy. Cervelli was so genuinely happy. He ran into right field, because he knew Melky and Cano were going to pummel him. It was beautiful to watch my love celebrate. He went over to Kim Jones, and asked, “Where is A.J.?” Aw. Don’t worry, he’s comin’, baby. As Kim asked Cervelli questions, A.J. stealthily approached. WHAM! The pie met Cervelli’s adorable face, and he put his hands up in the air, proud to be pied. He said, “Ohh, I love the moment” with the cutest accent and smile. Cervelli then licked a bit of the cream that was on his face, and said it tasted good. That’s the taste of victory, my love. It always tastes good.
Aw…his first taste of victory pie…I think I’m going to cry…I am so proud of him!!!
I think Francisco Cervelli deserves much more playing time. You all saw what he did last night. No offense to Molina, but do you think he would have done that? I don’t. Cervelli’s enthusiasm and his way of playing the game brings a spark to the club. I hope he remains a Yankee forever. It would be unwise for the Yankees to let him go.
What a game. What a game, what a game, what a game! Tuesday night, my Yankee-crush failed. But last night, my Yankee-crush succeeded. I am so proud and happy for Cervelli. Words can’t describe the emotions I felt when he won it for us. The heroes are Hideki Matsui, for his clutchness, Brett Gardner, for that timely stolen base, and my love, Francisco Cervelli, for obvious reasons. The Smelly Sox who cheat at Fenway won also, but I don’t give a sh!t. Nothing can dampen my spirits after last night’s game. Nothing at all. My Yanks are off tonight, which means I am doing a cutie post tomorrow. I promise I will do one. Tomorrow is Friday, and I will have all the time in the world to do it.
Ahh….Life is sweet….and the taste of victory makes it even sweeter. GO YANKEES!!!

Yankees Have Walkoff Win In The Rain
Pheew! I was getting worried that the Yankees were going to lose again! Their bats were sleeping. Thank God I was wrong. The Drama Club put on quite a show last night. The Yankees beat the White Sox 5-2.
I KNEW I would see it again!!!
Pitching Analysis: CC Sabathia was outstanding. He went 7 innings and gave up 2 runs on 8 hits and struckout 10 batters! He was really dealing. His fastball/changeup combo had every hitter fooled. He was really dealing last night.
The only trouble CC had ws in the 7th. Dye leadoff with a double, followed by a walk to Quentin. Rios doubled to make it 2-1. 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Uh-oh. Ramirez lined out, so the runners held up. Then Castro hit a ground ball to Arod, who got the out at home. And right when I thought CC would get out of it, Beckham singled in a run. Darn. I’ll talk more about this inning later.
The White Sox had their “Phil” of Hughes last night! He had a 1-2-3 8th, and struckout the side with his easy gas. Nice. Mo had a 1-2-3 9th, and Bruney had a 1-2-3 10th. The pitching was fabulous last night. Every Yankee did his job.
Defensive Analysis: The defense was the reason we won last night. In the 7th, the defense was sparkling. On the grounder by Castro when Arod threw home, Molina made a nice tag to nail the runner. The next batter, Nix, hit a ball that should’ve been a double. But Arod made an outstanding play. He dove behind him and kept it to an infield single, which failed to score the run. And when Beckham hit his single to tie the game at 2, Castro tried to score. But Swisher made a helluva throw to Molina, who blocked the plate so well and tagged Castro for the final out. The game wound up being tied and going into extras because of that 7th inning defense.
Offensive Analysis: Jeter led off the game with a homer, his 17th of the year. In the 3rd, Johnny hit a homer. He is so good. I love Johnny. 2-0 Yankees.
The Yankees had many more chances to score, but every time they failed. They could not hit with runners in scoring position. I was getting worried that they would lose the game, especially after the White Sox tied it up. I didn’t think they would hit anymore. But I was wrong.

In the 10th inning, Matsui and Swisher walked. Hairston pinch ran for Matsui. All they needed to win was a single. Robbie Cano came up. He was 0-4 at the time. I thought tha if anyone was going to do it, it would be him since he was hitless. Sure enough, Cano hit a MONSTER 3-run homer. He did “the drop” with his bat, and took a long stare at his game-winning blast. And he got pied by a seemingly angry A.J. All was right in the Bronx. A 5-2 Yankee win.

So with another walkoff win in their belts, the Yankees took the first game of this series. The heroes are CC, for another amazing start, Arod & Molina for saving the game in the 7th, and uhh….am I forgeting someone?……oh, yeah! Robbie Cano!!! The Smelly Sox cheated ONCE AGAIN and won, so the Yankee lead remains at 6 games. And I officially hate Josh Beckett even more, for being a classless *********** and hitting cute little Marco Scutaro in the head. He and the rest of the Red Sox are a bunch of classless ********. MY YANKEES HAVE CLASS! GO YANKEES!! I LOVE YOU!!!
A Win And A Loss
Hey, We Can’t Win’em All.
My little blogging break is over, now that my 16th birthday came and went. It’s nice to be back to blogging about the Yankees, even if I have to blog about a loss. But they did win Saturday. On Saturday they beat the Mariners 5-2, while yesterday they lost 10-3.
Pitching Analysis: On Saturday, Sergio Mitre pitched for us, and I love saying that he performed very well. He really did. He gave up a run in the first on a sac fly, but Cano made an error that made the runner on in the first place. Mitre just allowed 1 more run in the 4th on an infield single by Jack Hannahan. He really did a nice job. I was so proud of him. He won for me!

Yesterday was Joba’s turn, and he did not do too well. He got himself into trouble too many times, and unlike Mitre, he was unable to escape it. In 5 innings, Joba gave up 4 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. He didn’t have his good stuff yesterday. Alfredo Aceves relieved him, but did not do much better. He allowed 4 runs in 1 & 2/3 innings. Chad Gaudin gave up 2 runs in 1 & 1/3 innings. The pitching wasn’t really there yesterday, but you can’t expect them to be dominant every day, so whatever.
Joba wasn’t too good yesterday.
Defensive Analysis: I don’t really remember anything spectacular or stupid to note about the defense, so I’m sure it was solid as usual for both games. There is one thing: on Saturday’s game in the 7th inning, Jose Molina caught Ichiro at 3rd base, which is always an accomplishment. Go Jose!
Offensive Analysis: On Saturday, the Yankees scored 5 runs, most of them came early. In the 2nd, Molina singled to knock in Cano. Then Jeter knocked one in on a sac fly, and then with 2 outs Nick Swisher hit a 2-run homer, bringing the Yankee lead to 4-1. They got another run late in the game. When the pitching is on, offense is less important. So 5 runs was enough on Saturday.
Yesterday, the pitching was bad, and the Yankees only scored 3 runs, which was not enough. Jeter singled, and Ramiro Pena scored all the way from first! In the 4th, Swisher hit his 20th homer of the year, a 2-run shot which made the Yankees have a 3-2 lead. But the pitching could not hold the lead (cough, cough, Joba) so the Yankees lost 10-3.
Yesterday, Jeter passed Luis Aparicio for the most hits as a shortstop. Way to go, Jeet!
So the Yankees took 3 out of 4 in Seattle. Not too shabby. The heroes for Saturday were Nick Swisher for his homer, and Sergio Mitre for looking sexy and pitching a great game. Although they lost yesterday, the Yankees still have a really cozy 7.5 game lead over the Sox! What is happening to the Red Sox? Whatever it is, I like it! They won for me on Saturday, but they lost on my actual birthday. Hey, we can’t win’em all.
I don’t really care about the loss too much. I had a wonderful birthday despite it. I want to thank all you guys for wishing me a happy birthday. THANK YOU!!!! If I get a chance later, I’ll post some pictures.

Yankees Winning Streak is No More After Jays Take Game 1
The Yankees 7 game winning streak came to an end last night, but come on. They can’t win every game. There were positives and negatives about last night’s loss. The Blue Jays beat the Yankees 5-4.
Pitching Analysis: Sergio Mitre started for the Yanks last night. He is really sexy. He struck out the first 2 men he faced, and I thought, “Oh boy. 2 out in the 1st, it’s time to give up 5 runs.” Well, Mitre allowed singles to Lind and Overbay, and I was beginning to think my prediction was right. But Mitre proved me wrong, and struck out Vernon Wells to end the inning. He struck out the side!
Mitre struck out 2 more in the 2nd, having an easy 11 pitch inning. In the 3rd, Inglett struck out for Mitre’s 6th of the night. I was just starting to think that maybe he found it. But then Aaron Hill hit a solo home run. Darn. Why did I have to think that? I’m always wrong!
The 4th inning was gross. Overbay led off with a walk, followed by a Vernon Wells single. Bautista hit a comebacker, that was snabbed nicely by Mitre. Mitre fired to 2nd, not too accurately, and it went off Cano’s glove into centerfield, scoring a run, and no outs were made on the play. He got the double play ball, and just screwed it up! By the end of the inning, the Jays were up 4-2. In the 5th, Mitre allowed a solo bomb to Lyle Overbay.
Mitre’s biggest problem last night was throwing the ball to 2nd!
Mitre didn’t really pitch THAT badly. He went 5 innings, allowing 5 runs of which just 3 were earned, on 6 hits and he struck out 6 along the way. It was a better performance. That throwing error really messed the whole game up. If he can fix that problem, and then pitch the way he did last night again, I guarantee the Yankees will win for him. But that’s IF he can do it again!
Alfredo Aceves pitched the rest of the game. He was marvelous, allowing just 2 hits over 4 innings. He is a weapon out of the pen!
Defensive Analysis: Aside from Mitre’s crazy throw, the defense was great. Robinson Cano made a nice play in the 3rd. Scutaro hit a ball in the hole to Cano’s left, and he ran it down and threw across his body from the outfield to make the play. Underrated!
Offensive Analysis: The offense started out good, but then it sort of died toward the end of the game. Jeter hit a leadoff home run for the Yankees. Then in the 3rd, he hit a single up the middle to lead off the inning. He stole 2nd, and Barajas’ throw went into centerfield, allowing Jeter to go to 3rd. Speed kills! Then Swisher hit a sac fly, which gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead.
In the 4th, the Yankees were trailing 4-2, and Robinson Cano stepped up to the plate. He went deep to leadoff the inning! Then Jerry Hairston Jr came up. He’s adorable. Anyway, he hit a home run, his first as a Yankee, to tie the game at 4! Cano and Hairston back-to-back! He was a great pickup for the Yankees. When they got him, I was like, “Why did they get him? They have an abundance of benchies.” Well, I’m sure happy they got him. He has impressed me in every game he was in. And now the Yankees have a killer bench, in Hairston, Hinske, Pena, Gardner, (I miss him) and backup catcher Molina. (I would rather have Cervelli, but whatever!) That was all the offense for last night. They had chances to score more, but they couldn’t get the big hit.
Hairston has been nothing but a nice surprise for me. He was a wise acquisition.
So the Yankees lost a game. They didn’t really play badly, they just got beaten. It happens. It’s annoying, but it happens. The Red Sox are back at Fenway, cheating by stealing signs (it’s my theory) and they beat the Tigers last night, narrowing the Yankee lead to 5.5 games. It is very important for the Yankees to win these last 2 games at home, because then they go on the road to Seattle. Even though they are pretty good on the road, they are way better at home and can’t really afford to lose at home, especially while the Red Sox are cheatin’ it up (again, it’s just my theory) at Fenway. With Joba on the mound tonight, the Yankees are seeking a win to start a new winning streak. GO YANKEES!
Yankees Shutout Sox Again
Great Pitching, Solid Defense, & Timely Hitting Lead Yanks to a W
Game 1 was a messy, high scoring game in which the Yankees won. Game 2 was an exciting, long pitchers duel in which the Yankees won. Game 3 was a game that was all Yankees, and the Yankees won. I wonder what game 4 will be? Anyway, the Yankees dominated as they won game 3 by the score of 5-0.
Pitching Analysis: CC Sabathia looked to mimic Burnett’s performance from the night before. CC was the best possible pitcher the Yankees could have sent out there, because he is a work horse and the bullpen really needed a breather after game 2. That’s exactly what he did. CC went 7 & 2/3 innings of 2 hit, 2 walk shutout ball with 9 strikeouts. He had a perfect game through 4 & 1/3, and then “walked” Big Sloppi. The pitch was such a strike that it wasn’t funny. Stupid Tim McCarver kept saying, “Oh, CC has a perfect game.” Then he said how he thought players were silly to believe that mentioning the perfect game would blow it. You could tell he was trying to blow it. God, is he stupid! Nothing he says ever makes sense. Anyway, Ellsbury got a hit in the 6th with 2 out, and the no-no was gone. But CC pitched a helluva game yesterday. He was really dealing.
CC earned his money yeterday.
Hughes came in to get the last out of the 8th, and he struck out Nick Green with ease. David Robertson pitched the 9th. The pitching was once again remarkable.
Defensive Analysis: When a pitcher is at his best, so is the defense. That was the case yesterday. There were many nice plays, one by CC, one by Cano, but there was one play that stuck out to me the most. In the 7th, Martinez led off with a walk and Pukilis singled. After Big Sloppi struck out, Mike Lowell hit a double play ball to Cano. Cano flipped to Jeter, and Pukilis slid into Jeter, trying to break up the double play. But not to worry. Jeter jumped over Pukilis, landed safely, and fired a strike to Tex to get the non-hustling Lowell. Inning ending double play completed! It was awesome.
Offensive Analysis: The Yankees had 9 hits yesterday, but they added up to 5 runs. In the 3rd, my man Melky hustled and got himself an infield single to start off the inning. Molina walked, and Johnny walked after Jeter grounded into a double play. Mark Teixeira singled to drive in Melky. 1-0 Yankees.
In the 6th, Cano had a leadoff double. He head a great day at the plate, going 3 for 4. Swhisher made a beautiful bunt which moved Cano to third. Melky was intentionally walked to get to Jose Molina. But Molina came through. He put the bat on the ball, and got himself a sac fly, and gave CC a 2-0 lead to work with.
In the 7th, the Red Sox put in Ramon Ramirez. He threw up and in at Tex, who was not pleased. Tex walked with 1 out. Then Arod got plunked in the elbow. It was obviously intentional, since Arod hit the walkoff the night before. Jim Joyce, the home plate ump, threw Ramirez out of the game, and Ramirez acted like, “What did I do?” Then Francona came out and acted like he had no idea why his pitcher got thrown out. How stupid. Anyway, they got a new pitcher, some triple A guy, and he loaded the bases. Swisher walked to force in a run. 3-0 Yankees.
In the 8th, Jeter hit and opposite field 2-run home run to give the Yankees a 5-0 lead. I love watching Jeter hit. I think it is so cool that he mostly goes the other way. In Yankee Stadium, balls really carry out in right, so it’s like the ballpark was built for Jeter.
Nothing like a couple of insurance runs!
It was another great win for the Yankees yesterday. They now have a ******** 5.5 game lead in the AL East! And, they have the best record in baseball. The heroes for the win are CC Sabathia for his amazing performance, and Jeter for his nice jump over Pukilis and for his homer. I wonder what will happen in game 4. Sweep, possibly? That would be something else. We’ll just have to wait and see. For now, I’m just going to brag that THE YANKEES HAVE A 5.5 GAME LEAD IN THE DIVISION! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
